Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, particularly for couples who adopt the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) approach. Things can get real difficult real fast, especially where there isn’t enough time, energy, and experience required to take care of all the annoying, stressful, and boring details often involved in setting up a wedding.

The key to marital bliss is a hotly debated topic. And there are millions of articles out there stipulating diverse formulas, rules, and principles for a happy marriage. But generally regarded as the greatest key to a happy marriage is the idea wrapped in the phrase ‘happy wife, happy life’.

But is this phrase accurate?

Courthouse marriage is not a common phenomenon in Nigeria, mostly because the prerequisite of romance—in this part of the world— is an extravagant wedding. The rising expectation and the high-pitched fever that trail the announcement of a wedding often pushes prospective couples—who themselves grew up on the notion that a wedding is no wedding unless it’s extravagant—and their families and friends to overdo everything.

Finding the right woman and asking her hand in marriage is not easy, but finding the ‘best’ best man may be an even more challenging task.
Let me say again: picking a best man is a serious and tricky business. It’s one of the decisions that the groom-to-be has to make even if he’s not actively participating in other aspects of the wedding planning. And with all the responsibilities of a best man, it’s a decision that must be made correctly.

As a wedding fanatic, enthusiast, and writer, I have followed the trends over the years and I have realized that new customs and traditions are fast replacing the old ones.
