I’m a wedding fanatic, enthusiast, and writer. So hearing about or seeing couples go through divorce makes me want to lock my doors, close my windows, and cry myself to sleep. Okay, that’s probably an overstatement, but I’m sure you get the point. I feel terrible.

So I have decided to write something about dying marriages. In this article, I’m going to offer some advice on how a marriage can be saved, even if one of the partners wants out.

However absurd it may sound, healthy conflict is necessary for a great marriage. Yes. Contrary to popular opinion, fighting is a useful tool in great relationships and it is an indication of a healthy marriage.

Marriage is big deal, and choosing who to tie the knots with is one of the most important decisions anyone will ever make. Marriage unveils reality; it opens one’s eyes to a whole new different world; and because of its grave importance, there are no rooms for errors.

Ideally, love should be the main motivation behind every union but—as reality has shown—even love is not always enough: When choosing a life partner, a person must consider other things as integrity, morals, and piety, so that what looks like sound judgment won’t end up as a giant disaster.

Every couple argues.

From deciding what gatherings to attend to settling on what kind of house to buy: from contemplating who takes out the thrash to agreeing on the number of kids that should be had, every couple argues. But these arguments are nothing when compared to the mother of all head-butting in a marriage – money!

So you want to get married, eh? Dear reader, you probably know this, but permit me to reiterate: Marriage is a big deal. It changes everything. And while some people are extremely lucky about their choices, some others live through each day wishing that they had made a different choice.

“Can sex really kill a marriage?”

A friend once asked me this question, and I had wanted to scream the answer in his ears, but we were in a Catholic church, and the Reverend Father was shooting occasional glances at my general direction. So I had to bend slightly over and whisper it to him, then I had given him the expression that conveyed the words “Are you kidding me?”
