I would be the first to admit that I have attended my fair share of weddings. I was never one to be afraid of travelling because I loved adventure. But after attending a wedding in Iseyin, I swore off long distance weddings.

In good spirits, I had prepared for my trip and planned to enjoy myself to the fullest.  However, I was met with an entirely different scenario.

Who hasn't thought about their wedding day?  Probably no one. As unromantic as I like to tell myself I am, once or twice, I have allowed myself to dabble into deep thoughts of my wedding day and that day apparently looms nearer everyday.

In Nigeria, we partake in so many wedding traditions that are either influenced by western culture or better still, passed down from generation to generation in our own traditions. I mean, look at it this way, a wedding probably won’t be a wedding without the bride walking down the aisle to meet her groom who’s anticipating her arrival at the pulpit.

I am entirely certain there are some traditions that can be done without and no one will notice or be upset. Well, maybe a few people will frown at this depending on what traditions we skip but at the end of the day, it is your wedding, not theirs.
