Choosing The Perfect Wedding Cake That Defines You

By Ayo Al |

Planning a wedding in Nigeria is no child's play.  It can be stressful, tiring and just plain frustrating but with the right tips, it could be less tiring and become fun and exciting for you.  Who doesn't love cake, a good one at that?  So for a successful wedding, you need a cake that would not only look fabulous but taste exquisite.

Now let’s help you choose the right cake.

  1. Start real quick

Do not, I repeat, do not leave choosing a cake as the last thing you attend to. You should start planning how to get your cake six or five months before your wedding. Taking your time to plan this ensures that you get the best.

  1. Choose a Bakery

Before choosing your bakery, do your research. Ask friends and family if they know a good Baker. Ask married friends and relatives who have loved their wedding cake about the local bakery they used. It would do a whole lot of good to read wedding specialists reviews online. Check wedding websites (theweddingz.com) or blogs that have customer feedback. Make sure the reviews you are read are up to date, as their website and online photos should also be. Once you have one in mind, visit the bakery in person. It is important that you feel comfortable with the team that would be working on your cake. After all, it is for your big day. You want to be working with staff that truly listens to your requests and questions. If you think you may have found the bakery for you, then you move on to the next step.

  1. Meet with the Baker

After deciding on the bakery you might use, make an appearance in person, Make an appointment, talk about your wedding,  your preference, the number of guests, anything to make your vendor get an idea of what you want. Then you can make a final choice when you’ve found the best.

  1. Decide on a design and flavor

I have a friend that would die for chocolate cake, and talking to her recently, she said she would want a chocolate four tiered cake for her wedding. I love red velvet and would probably do that for my own wedding. It is important to find a design and flavor that works for you. Discuss what you want with your Baker and see if your needs would be met.

  1. Consider your Budget

Budget!  Budget!  Budget! This cannot be over emphasized, as it determines the success or failure of your wedding. If your wedding is a small budget wedding, this means that you would have to cut corners on your cake. Perhaps go for a two tiered cake with just fondant. The design and flavor of your cake could also affect the price of the cake, so you might have limited choices. However, with a sensible and efficient bakery, you could still have the cake of your dreams, although in smaller quantity. Also consider your number of guests. You do not want to make too large a cake for less than a hundred guests.

  1. Taste the cake

Do not be intimidated or cajoled by any vendor.  Ask for a taste. This is how you know you can completely trust the baker. Discuss anything you do not like about it, ask for changes.  Do whatever it takes to get your money’s worth.

Don't forget, tongues would always wag, so you might as well get them talking about how lovely your cake was.
